Instagram Reel won't download? Causes and fixes
Find the message you saw below, or work through the quick checks first.
Quick checks
- Copy the full link again from Instagram (Share › Copy link). It should contain
instagram.com/reel/. - Open the link in a private/incognito window. If Instagram asks you to log in, the Reel isn't public.
- Wait a minute and retry, then try a different public Reel to see whether the problem is only this one.
"That isn't a supported Reel link" / unsupported URL
Only Reel links work: /reel/…, /reels/…, or /username/reel/…. Profile pages, Stories, photo posts, and links from other sites aren't supported. Copy the link from the Reel's own Share menu.
Private Reel
ReelGrab can't access private accounts and never asks for your login. Nothing you try on ReelGrab will change that.
Deleted or unavailable Reel
If the post was removed, or is age-, region- or otherwise restricted, you'll usually see "No downloadable video was returned". Check that it still plays in a private window; if not, it can't be downloaded.
"The media service is busy" / provider failure
ReelGrab relies on a third-party service to look up the video. When it's overloaded or down, requests fail through no fault of the link. Wait a few minutes and try again.
"Took too long" / timeout
Lookups can take up to about 40 seconds. If it times out, retry once. Repeated timeouts usually mean the service is struggling or the Reel can't be retrieved.
"Too many requests" / rate limit
To prevent abuse, ReelGrab limits how many requests can come from one connection. Wait a minute and try again, and avoid repeatedly pressing the button.
Network problems
If you see "Couldn't reach ReelGrab", check your connection, turn off VPNs or content blockers that may interrupt requests, and reload the page.
The download link stopped working
The video link is temporary. Paste the Reel link again to get a fresh one, then save the video promptly.
